I am wondering if anyone has installed a fridge/freezer designed for a RV into a sailboat. We use 12 volts well travelling down the highway and switch to propane while parked. These units last for many years on land maybe not on the water. Any thoughts out there thank you.

I don't think they they are particularly well suited for a boat.  Not very efficient/well insulated and unless you have a generator or lots of solar to keep up with energy load?  Do not want a propane fridge on my boat.

Think you could do better adding some insulation to your IP box and going with a straight 12vdc system.

The RV propane/12V units are absorption type refrigeration systems and have to be very level to work at all. Not suitable for a sailboat.

A recent report from a full time RVer who has been at this for five years indicates that he has had to replace his Dometic propane system three times in this period.

So, I am talking to him about switching to a 12V Danfoss compressor system.
