Morning,
Not sure if this the right page, but Im looking for a replacement dodger—frame mostly—for my new used IP27. Anyone have a source, or an old frame he doesn’t want?
Jim

Yes, thanks, Bobby. I already have a canvas shop (and close friend) line up; it’s just OUCH expensive from scratch.
Thank you for your input.

Jim,
Just FYI, the factory did not provide or install dodgers or biminis - the design, fabrication, and installation was left to the local dealer as part of the commissioning process. As a result there isn’t really any true standard in terms of design. There are lots of subtle variations in terms of size and features - overall height, number/size of window openings, inclusion of side/rear grab rails, allowance for connector panels, etc.
As Bobby noted it’s going to be very difficult to find a used frame. You *might* get lucky, but …

Yes. Thank you for that knowledge, Stuart.
I’ve already commissioned John Lemolle (Gemini Canvas); he’s a wizard and built the new dodger for my CD33.
Just was hoping to save a couple thousand by starting with a frame.
Thank you, again, for your counsel.
Jim

You could peruse a few boatyards or boat salvage yard if you have one for gently used bows. I had difficulty finding someone to bend tubing at a reasonable price when redoing my cockpot and canvas and was ready to buy a tubing bender and try my hand at it and came across the perfect sized set of bows at the local salvage yard. You just need to be sure the bows are sound and not structurally compromised.
Buying the bender and getting the tubing would have been about half the cost of hiring a shop.
Sailrite also offers kits that are good quality. And maybe your canvas guy has an account there already and might share his discount if you buy him dinner:-)

Thank you, Migaloo
Dodger has to be a thing of beauty on a boat, and that kind of work is out of my reach.
Thank you, though.
St. Petersburgh has many fond memories for me when I played in the high school Florida tennis circuit, late 60’s. The St Petersburgh Times tournament was one of those must-shows if you wanted to play at next level. We always scheduled a fishing event in when we went.

I agree the dodger and to a lesser extent the bimini play a significant role in a boats lines. Unfortunately that usually means smaller and less practical for living aboard, especially at 6'3"!!! That said there seem to be plenty of second hand bows around and with patience and perseverance I'm sure something would turn up.
We've been in St Pete for 2 years now after many visits and still love it here despite its growing pains. We actually live in the Municipal Marina so perfectly located. We will be heading out on a 6 to 8 month cruise next week and decided to keep our slip so we can come back here (after huricane season!)
