Bobby Ward (username : Grainne) and I are very happy to announce that the factory has just given us approval to start sharing electronic versions of Owner's Manuals via IP Home Port. Many of you have asked about this over the years so we're excited that we finally have the go-ahead to make it happen. Thank you, Mr. Bolin!
This approval is limited to boats that are NOT currently in production - owners with current model boats should continue to contact Island Packet's Customer Service department at 1 800 828 5678 to request a replacement manual.
Note that a request for a replacement Owner's Manual has historically been a good indicator to the factory that there's been a change in ownership for a particular boat. This gave them an important opportunity to review and update their records as needed. With the on-line availability of manuals this will no longer be an effective strategy, so the factory asks that any new owners of pre-owned IPs please contact Customer Service at 1 800 828 5678 (if they have not already done so) to ensure that the ownership records for their boat are up to date.
Our collection of Owner's Manuals will be stored in a dedicated section of the 'File Downloads' page (LINK). I've already posted two files there, specifically PDF versions of the IP350 and IP380 manuals, just to get things started. The IP350 manual is from Bobby while the IP380 manual was generously shared by Todd Peterson (Pete1Tod).
I know that there are any number of other electronic manuals in circulation (IP owners tend to be resourceful!) so if you have an electronic version of an Owner's Manual that isn't already in our collection please consider sending it via e-mail to webmaster@iphomeport.com. Be sure to include your IP Home Port username so that your fellow owners can recognize your contribution ...
Here are some important notes about this initiative :
1) We're only looking for PDF versions of the manuals at this time, preferably with OCR completed and the linked Table Of Contents generated. The image-only PDF versions are a great start but they don't allow users to perform key word searches and also tend to be rather inefficient in terms of file size. That said, if you have a good quality image-only version of the Owner's Manual for a model that isn't already in the collection please contact us as we may be able to help with the additional processing.
2) We're only looking for 'factory stock' versions of the manuals due to the potential for confusion due to any user edits or other customizations.
3) The files will be optimized as needed in order to reduce size and improve download speed.
4) The files will be re-named as needed in order to simplify coding and maintenance for the File Downloads page.
5) We need source control for these files in case there are any issues regarding their contents or functionality, so each will be electronically marked with both copyright information for Island Packet Yachts as well as a version date for the download from IP Home Port.
